Teachers’ Day Poems

Number One Teacher Poem

(Name of teacher),

I’m happy that you’re my teacher;
I enjoy each lesson you teach.
As my role model you inspire me
To dream and to work and to reach.

With your kindness you get my attention;
Every day you are planting a seed
Of curiosity and motivation
To know and to grow and succeed.

You help me fulfill my potential;
I’m thankful for all that you’ve done.
I admire you each day, and I just want to say,
As a teacher, you’re number one!

–By Joanna Fuchs

A Teacher for All Seasons Poem

A teacher is like Spring,
Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them,
Whenever they have doubts.

A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament
Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.

A teacher is like Fall,
With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors
And a happy atmosphere.

A teacher is like Winter,
While it’s snowing hard outside,
Keeping students comfortable,
As a warm and helpful guide.

Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude;
You’re a teacher for all seasons,
And you have my gratitude!

–By Joanna Fuchs

Sonnet For An Unforgettable Teacher

(Teacher’s name),
When I began your class I think I knew
The kind of challenges you’d make me face.
You gave me motivation to pursue
The best, and to reject the commonplace.
Your thinking really opened up my mind.
With wisdom, style and grace, you made me see,
That what I’d choose to seek, I’d surely find;
You shook me out of my complacency.
I thank you now for everything you’ve done;
What you have taught me I will not outgrow.
Your kind attention touched my mind and heart;
In many ways that you will never know.
I will remember you my whole life through;
I wish that all my teachers were like you.

Teachers

When we stride or stroll across the frozen lake,
We place our feet where they have never been.
We walk upon the unwalked. But we are uneasy.
Who is down there but our old teachers?
Water that once could take no human weight-
We were students then- holds up our feet,
And goes on ahead of us for a mile.
Beneath us the teachers, and around us the stillness

God Made Teachers

God understood our thirst for
Knowledge, And Our Need To Be Led
By someone wiser;
He needed a heart of compassion,
Of encouragement, and patience;
Someone who would accept
The Challenge Regardless Of The
Opposition;
Someone who could see potential
And believe in the best in others . . .
So he made teachers

Two More Days Till School

I’m finally going to school this year,
and now the big day’s almost here.
I’ll learn to write and count and read–
Only two more days till school.

I got new pants and shirts and socks,
a brand-new red and blue lunch box;
I’ll paint and sing and dance and play–
Only one more day fill school.

My hair is washed, my sneakers squeak,
I’m so excited, I can hardly speak!
New things to do, new friends to meet–
Hooray! It’s the first day of school!

– Leslie Kimmelman

Teacher

For teaching children lessons,
To help them as they grow,
Let this gift remind you,
You’re the best teacher we know!

A Loving Teacher

Things our grown-up mind defies
Appear as giants in children’s eyes.
A gentle touch upon her head
A simple word when kindly said.
Complete attention when she calls.
Her knowing you have given all.
Correcting in a loving way.
Instilling trust in what you say.

Making her believe unique
The tiny flaw upon her cheek.
Admiring old and faded dresses.
Reminding her we all make messes.
Words of comfort you’ve softly spoken
A promise you’ve made she knows won’t be broken.
Your knowing her doll that was lost today
Is just as important as bills you can’t pay.

Helping make her plans and schemes
Giving her hope and building her dreams.
All of this and so much more
Is in her mind forever stored.
They who touch her life awhile
Can either make or break that child.
Education is important, true,

But so much more, her faith in you.
You’ve weathered through the storm and strife;
You helped to build a small girl’s life.
You’re truly one to be admired.
For you gave more than was required.

Why I Went To The Foot

Why I went to the foot?
Was ever a maiden so worried?
I’ll admit I am partial to Jim,
For Jimmie has promised to wed me
When I’m old enough to wed him.

But then I love teacher, too, dearly,
She’s always so lovely to me,
And she’s pretty and kind and sweet-tempered,
And gentle as gentle can be.

I wouldn’t for worlds hurt Jim’s feelings,
For he never would like me again—
But there was my dearest, sweet teacher,
And I’d die if my words gave her pain.

“Two plus two equals what?” was the problem.
And I knew teacher thought it made “four”;
But Jimmie said “six,” and maintained it
As long as he stood on the floor.

And I saw I must soon choose between them,
For I was the next in the line.
Should I side with my teacher or Jimmie?
What a sad situation was mine!

And just as my heart with that problem
Of friendship was so sorely vexed
I was called on to answer the other,
For teacher had said, sharply, “Next!”

It was then that the brilliant thought struck me,
That by compromise I could contrive
To hurt neither teacher nor Jimmie,
And that’s how I came to say “five.”

– Ellis Parker Butler

Tribute To A Teacher

We held their hands the first day of school.
Our hearts were filled with pride.
There was an aura of fear and apprehension
As we stood close to their side.
We deposited our children at your door,
Our most precious and prized possessions.
We trusted that you would give them more
Then Reading and Writing lessons.
Our unspoken words were, give them self worth.
They are little children, respect their rights.
Teach them with love and remember compassion.
Use a firm hand to break up their fights.
As the years went by, you did us proud
With your guiding hand and understanding smile.
You gave much more then we expected.
That was your way, your undeniable style.
What higher tribute can we pay a teacher?
To what greater heights can he ascend?
Than to have his students praise his work,
And to say “He is my friend.”

You Are My Special Teacher

You are my special teacher
I just want you to know
I always had fun in your class
How the time has flown!

Thank you for helping me
To learn all that I know
I will always remember you
Even when I’m grown!

I’ll miss you being my teacher
I know the reason why
I am feeling very sad
Because it’s time to say goodby

When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking

When you thought I wasn’t looking, you displayed my first report, and I wanted to do another.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, you fed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, you gave me a sticker, and I knew that things were special things.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, you put your arm around me, and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt–but that it’s all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, you smiled, and it made me want to look that pretty too.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, you cared, and I wanted to be everything I could be.
When you thought I wasn’t looking–I looked…and wanted to say thanks for all those things you did when you thought I wasn’t looking.

– Mary Rita Schilke Korzan

My Teacher

Thank you, my teacher, for being there
At times when skies were gray

Thank you, my teacher, for lending an ear
When I had things to say
You showered love on me lavishly
When no one seemed to care
You brought me joys untold
To fill my heart with moments of gold
I would have felt isolated and lonely
If you had not been there
I lack the words to let you know
How much you mean to me,
But I will profusely thank God for you
Until the Eternity.

– Maryam Mashhadi

E is for encouraging us to do our best
R is for rare, there is only one of you!
So thank you special teacher; we think you’re great too!

What Teachers Make
The dinner guests were sitting around the table
discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain
the problem with education. He argued:
“What’s a kid going to learn from someone who decided
his best option in life was to become a teacher?”

He reminded the other dinner guests that it’s true
what they say about teachers: “Those who can…do.
Those who can’t … teach.”

To corroborate, he said to another guest: “You’re a
teacher, Susan,” he said. “Be honest. What do you
make?”

Susan, who had a reputation of honesty and frankness,
replied, “You want to know what I make?”

I make kids work harder than they ever thought they
could. I can make a C+ feel like a Congressional Medal
of Honor and an A- feel like a slap in the face if the
student did not do his or her very best.”

“I can make kids sit through 40 minutes of study hall
in absolute silence.”

“I can make parents tremble in fear when I call home”

“You want to know what I make?”

“I make kids wonder.”

“I make them question.”

“I make them criticize.”

“I make them apologize and mean it.”

“I make them write.”

“I make them read, read, read.”

“I make them spell definitely beautiful, definitely
beautiful, and definitely beautiful over and over and
over again, until they will never misspell either one
of those words again.”

“I make them show all their work in math and hide it
all on their final drafts in English.”

“I make them understand that if you have the brains,
then follow your heart…and if someone ever tries to
judge you by what you make, you pay them no
attention!”

“You want to know what I make?”

“I make a difference.”

“And you? What do you make?”

Your Teachers

Let the sky
Become
Your teacher.
You will learn
How to serve.

Let the moon
Become
Your teacher.
You will learn
How to love.

Let the sun
Become
Your teacher.
You will learn
How to become.

Don’t Want To Say Goodbye

I remember the times when you were there for me
through my many tears you helped me really see
that you always there for me
you stood close to me like a friend, there for me
until the end

I will never forget you, the things
you helped me through, I saw my inspiration
it is you
you were always there when I needed you
I now will always have great memories of you

You would ask me “how are you doing”? ‘
I would say I’m fine
as tears start to form in my eyes
you always knew that I was really not fine

You are someone that I want to be like
I found out who that person is, that person is you
I hope that you remember me through your days
you have touched my heart in so many ways

I look up to you and I see a ray of sunshine
shining in on me
I knew God sent me one of his angels
when he sent you to me

You help me through it all
coming to save me every time I fall
If I could say one word that wouldn’t
tell it all

I am so happy to have you with me
you helped me to really see what I couldn’t
see You helped me to find the real me
you turned me into the beautiful person
I was meant to be.

If I say goodbye to you I will just fall apart
because you have always been in my heart
I don’t want to lose you
you care about me and I care about you too

I remember the day I first met you and you met me
it was like it was really meant to be
you are someone I hold close to my heart
there I know that we will never be apart.

You Touched My Inner Soul

The Clarity you gave to me,
It shone like Angel rays,
Like water rushed on golden sands,
And crashed along the bays.

The questions deep within my heart,
Confused my humble mind,
Yet when you spoke your words aloud
It seemed, no longer I was blind.

The answers all came flooding in,
They touched my inner soul,
The knowledge that you gave to me
Within my heart I hold.

I understood that the events
That troubled me somehow,
Was nothing to be frightened of,
Instead I should be Proud.

I Thank You Sir most graciously,
These words I say aloud,
For the Clarity you’ve given me,
Has made me feel quite proud.

You Told Me

You told me to listen to my heart
But it wasn’t speaking

You told me to wait
But soon I got impatient

You told me to feel
But I didn’t know how to feel beyond my body

You told me to see through it
But it wasn’t made of glass

You told me read between the lines
But there was nothing there

You told me to be careful
Does it mean I was too careless?

You told me I was blind
But still I could see

You told me we don’t have time to spare
But who were we giving our time to?

You told me stop being so closed
But I wasn’t a door

You told me “don’t cry “
Was I suppose to force myself to be happy

You told me to forgive & forget
But its not easy

You told me to l o v e
But what is that ?
You don’t know what it is until you find it
Where is it ?
Nobody knows

You told me a lot of things
And I didn’t really know what they meant
But I’ve grown now
Your gone & I wish you would tell me some more

Not Just A Teacher But A Friend

I had no where to turn, had no where to go.
this is just something I think you need to know
I don’t know what made me trust you
I still remember the day when I told you what I’ve been through
I thought I should run away, go hide in a hole
but then you really brought out my true soul

As each day grew longer
our trust became stronger
each time I wanted to cry
you stayed there right by my side

then I moved to the next grade
Boy was I afraid
that our trust would slowly fade
but I was wrong
we are still strong

even though sometimes you don’t have time
you at least ask me if I am fine
even though sometimes I am not
I feel like I have just been shot
I smile and say yes I’m alright
then I walk away and your out of sight
I’ll just have to wait
I still have my fate

I am so glad
that you were there when I was sad
and this is what makes you
Not just my 7th grade teacher, my friend
