It is time for The Hindu Young World quiz competition, and the 11th edition of the all-India contest will be held in 16 centres this year.
The 2010 edition will also celebrate 20 years of the ever popular Young World.
The annual multi-city quiz contest by The Hindu Young World is back in its eleventh edition, and will be rolled out on October 21st, 2010 from Vijayawada , to the Grand Finale in Chennai on November 25th , 2010. Billed as “the most eagerly looked forward to event” for school children, the annual quiz attracts talented young minds from all over the country, will be conducted at 16 centres with questions from varied topics such as epics, history, films, music, science etc.
The Young World quiz will be conducted at the following Centres: Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Salem, Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Madurai, Puducherry, Tirupati and culminating in an Grand Finale in Chennai. There are six cash prizes at the regional level and six at the Grand Finale.
The contest is open this year for students from classes seven to nine. Any two students from the same school can form a team and each school can send in a maximum of four teams, using the Entry Cards sent to them.
The schools should send the entries to the local Regional Office of The Hindu within the specified dates.
The Hindu will meet the cost of the travel, boarding, and lodging of the teams and for one accompanying parent or teacher from the other centres for the Grand Finale in Chennai .
Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan will host the show.
The regional winners will bag Rs.15,000/- as the first prize, Rs.12,000/- for the second and Rs.10,000/- for the third and Rs. 2,000 each for the fourth to sixth positions.
There are grand prizes to be won. The prize money for the winner in the grand final has been more than doubled from last year to Rs. 50,000. The second prize will be Rs. 40,000 and the third Rs. 30,000.
The fourth, fifth and sixth places will carry Rs. 10,000 each.
In addition, a large number of other prizes in kind have been lined up for participants and the audience too.
Above all, there is something for the family. The families of the two participants in the winning team in the Grand Finale at Chennai will get a bonus — a Tata Nano car each.
