KVS Golden Jubilee celebrations begins

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the present government has invested heavily to promote access and quality in education. He said the Right to Education enacted by his government ensures that every child has the Right to eight years of education. The Mid Day Meal programme has assured over 10 crore children are provided meals which has helped in retention on the kids in schools. Focusing on some of the shortcomings in the present education system, the prime Minister said that the standard of teaching needs to be improved and the problems of high drop out among the school children needs to be tackled. Lauding the role of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Dr. Manmohan Singh said these institutions can help in setting standards in school education in the country. He said about 11 lakh students are studying in about eleven thousand Kendriya Vidyalayas which are providing quality education by using latest information technology and teaching of foreign languages as a subject. He also appreciated the role of KVs in catering to the need of Armed forces whose members were frequently transferred.
Speaking on the occasion the HRD Dr. M.M.Pallam Raju said KVS has adopted technology in a big way in order to bring substantial changes in the class-rooms through ICT enabled facilities. Most of the KVs have their own website, have internet facilities and computer labs, the computer-pupil ratio is one teacher for twenty one students. With the introduction of ICT enabled class-rooms, use of ICT is being made in the class-room which is expected to lead to significant improvement in the teaching-learning process.
Dr. Raju said Ministry has nominated KVS as the Model School Organization for the 2500 Model Schools to be set up under the PPP mode.

Teachers’ National Conference 2010

TeacherSITY in partnership with NCERT, Central Board of Secondary Education,  Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, [NVS] and Kendriya Vidyalaya Samiti [KVS] is  organizing a Teachers’ Conference, the first of its kind, where teachers would together with academic researchers and administrator would discuss, debate and resolve their classroom personal and professional challenges.

The conference is scheduled for 13th November 2010 in the National Council of Educational Research and Training, [NCERT] premises located on the Aurobindo  Marg, Adchini, [near IIT Delhi] New Delhi.

While a good number would attend as delegates, those wishing to present papers based on their own classroom experiences or based on their research are welcome to register  as ‘presenters’.

Teacher wishing to present paper in any of the relevant parallel sessions, where the subtheme would be taken up for discussion may request for and shall receive expert mentoring and supervision to ensure that their papers are in sync with the letter and spirit of the conference. This would ensure that all participants, presenters or delegates receive maximum value from attending the conference.

You are hereby requested to nominate and encourage teachers from your school to  present papers and participate in the Teachers’ Conference 2010. You are advised to nominate at least one teacher from your school to either present a paper or participate as a delegate. Kindly provide your teachers desirous of attending the conference, the necessary support to participate in this conference.

All the necessary information about the conference is as follows: Who Can Participate: The conference is open for all the school teachers in India teaching any class or grade. They can participate as delegates or presenters. While the delegates may actively participate in parallel sessions, the presenters would read and present their papers, which would form the basis of deliberations in these sessions. Registration: Teachers can either register on-line or download the registration form and submit it duly filled.

Registering Teachers would be informed through email further details of the conference. Hence it is important that all registered teachers provide their personal email ids for communication.

Accommodation: Teachers selected to present a paper would be provided accommodation at NCERT guesthouse for two nights. Other participating delegates are requested to make their own arrangements for transport and stay.

Selection Process of The Presenters: The teachers applying for presenting a paper would write a brief note on the chosen theme in the space provided in the registration form. The write up would be evaluated by designated mentors and the selected presenters would be informed accordingly. The Teachers selected for paper-presentation would be allotted a mentor who would guide the presenter in writing the research paper. Other teachers not presenting a paper may participate as delegates.

KVS Regional Science Exhibition 2010-‘11

The 38th KVS Regional Science Exhibition held at Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom on 1st and 2nd September 2010. Nearly Six Hundred students from Sixty Two Kendriya Vidyalayas of Chennai Region(Kerala, Tamilnadu and Pondicherry) participated in the event which showcased exciting innovations and experiments.

Why the Exhibition ?

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi organises Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children (JNNSEC) every year for popularising science amongst children, teachers and public in general. Selected schools from all States and Union Territories, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Department of Atomic Energy Central Schools, CBSE affiliated public (independent) Schools and Demonstration Multipurpose Schools of Regional Institutes of Education participate in this national level exhibition.

The main theme for the State Level Science Exhibitions for Children (SLSEC) – 2010-11 is‘Science and Technology for Challenges in Life‘. In order to facilitate the preparation of exhibits and models for display and the organisation of State Level Science Exhibitions during 2010 -11, six sub-themes have been identified.

These are:

1 . Biodiversity: Conservation and Sustenance;

2 . Agriculture and Technology;

3 . Green Energy;

4 . Transport and Communication;

5 . Community Health and Environment; and

6 . Mathematical Modeling.
