“Read and think”, Gireesh Puliyoor

Effective reading should be followed by thinking which leads to develop one’s creativity, said Gireesh Puliyoor, poet and children’s writer. He was inaugurating the Reader’s Club activities for the new academic session at Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom on 10 August 2011.  He cited  the examples of prophet Muhammad and ancient Indian munis/seers who gave utmost importance to reading and knowledge seeking. Excessive reading/over reading may also be avoided since it develops inaction/laziness, he urged. Later Puliyoor recited own poems and interacted with the students.

Shri. C.P.Kumaran, Principal welcomed the gathering and Ms. Nazrine delivered the vote of thanks. Mr. S.L.Faisal, Librarian was also present.

“Don’t be addicted to Net”: Dr.George Onakkoor

The internet should supplement student’s reading and an addiction to it will hamper their physical and mental development, said Dr. George Onakkoor. The technology should support the acquisition of knowledge which will later be transformed into wisdom. The students should represent the diverse cultures of the country  and at the same time be proud to be an Indian, he said.

Onakkoor was attending the “Meet the Author” session organized by the Library Media Centre of Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom. He interacted with the children and also distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions held in the library.
