The students and staff members of Kendiya Vidyalaya Pattom have dropped everything and read under the " Drop Everything And Read" (D. E. A. R.), campaign organized in connection with the National Library Week on 1st November 2014. The programme was undertaken by the School Reader’s Club.
This whole school reading programme was formally inaugurated in the school assembly by S. Ajayakumar, Principal. After reaching back to their respective classes and staff rooms, students and staff members were alerted by a bell which announced the starting of DEAR. In the following 20 minutes the entire school has become a big reading room. They were asked to drop all their routine work and dedicate the time for extra reading. They could read anybook besides their textbooks. The Readers’ club volunteers distributed compulsory reading material also. Each and every human inside the campus was only reading.
The DEAR campaign was conceived to instill reading habit among the students and staff members and make the whole school dedicated sometime for reading, keeping everything aside, said, S. L. Faisal, Librarian and coordinator of the programme.
